Abstract

The main objective of this BA thesis was to prepare paint replicas with potassium silicate binder to be used to understand the analytical response of this type of painting technique. Potentials and limitations of three non-invasive techniques, X-ray fluorescence, reflection FTIR spectroscopy and imaging were determined. The systematic study of the replicas resulted in a reference database, which was used for the interpretation of the in-situ investigations in the Semsales church during the June 2019 mission.
